An Eclectic Gastronomy of Sound

Sarah Louise: “Field Guide”

sarahlouiseField Guide, by young acoustic guitarist Sarah Louise is music that feels homegrown and honed to perfection through countless hours of playing. Titles like “Late Summer Seed Collection” set the scene for an impressionistic audio landscape of Appalachian hills and valleys, deep creeks, tall trees and the buzz of late summer insects in the leaves. The album was only released in physical form as a limited edition cassette…and why not? According to this interview, she has no cell phone and only recently got (slow) Internet access to her home in the woods.  Freedom from distractions of modern life has done her in good stead when it comes to creating these steel-stringed works of art. Field Guide is one of the strongest guitar albums this year, by far.
